EXCLUSIVE:Here’s a trailer for The 2016 Oscar Nominated Short Films will be released in theaters on January 29, providing the opportunity to see the films before the Academy Awards ceremony February 28. This can prove especially valuable when it comes to entering your office Oscar pools, as picking the winners in these categories often can be the toughest thing to do on any ballot. At least ShortsHD gives you a head start.
The shorts categories have been a staple of the Oscars since the fifth year of the Academy Awards in 1931-32. Of course, at that time and through the 1950s and a bit into the ’60s, this kind of programming was a part of every moviegoing experience. Theaters long ago abandoned the practice of showing shorts with the main feature, but they live on in different formats, and the art of the format always gets a very public boost come Oscar time. It is interesting to note that the majority of nominees this year are foreign-based films from the likes of France, Germany, Chile, Russia, Liberia, the UK and so on.
