Julianne Moore won Best Actress for her role in Still Alice at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
“I read an article that said winning an Oscar could lead to living five years longer, ” she began her acceptance speech. “If that’s true, I’d really like to thank the Academy, because my husband is younger than me.” Meanwhile, said husband snapped photos of his Oscar-winning wife from his seat in the audience.
Moore plays a 50-year-old professor suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s in Still Alice, a film based on Lisa Genova’s 2007 book of the same name. Before the Oscars, she won both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for the role.
“I’m so happy—I’m thrilled, actually, that we were able to hopefully shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease, ” she said. “People with Alzheimer’s deserve to be seen so that we can find a cure.”
This marked Moore’s fifth Oscar nomination. Previously, she was nominated for Boogie Nights in 1998, The End of the Affair in 2000, and both The Hours and Far from Heaven
