About the Blog
After too many hours spent doing scientific research, I yearned for a creative outlet that highlighted the purely indulgent side of life, particularly as it related to food. And so, Chocolate + Marrow was born. The food I feature frequently includes playful reinterpretations of the traditional Cajun classics that I grew up on and dishes inspired by the bounty of the Pacific Northwest that I am now surrounded by every day. It is a blog created to share, to indulge, and, above all, to celebrate the richness of life through food.
About Brooke
I grew up in New Orleans, which is where my love affair with cast-iron skillets, drive-through daiquiri shops, and food-centered celebrations first began. When I left the Big Easy, I moved to San Francisco and enrolled in Stanford’s PhD program in Sociology to study Gender Inequality and Sexuality. Though I’m still a student there (graduating this June!), I now teach and conduct research in Portland, Oregon. I spend most of my free time working on Chocolate + Marrow, doing freelance photography and writing, and living the Portlandia dream with my husband and perpetually hungry chocolate lab.
