It's almost time for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, which is the cue for celebs to get into their gowns, drape on their borrowed diamonds, strike a pose on the red carpet, and then dip into the bubbly while enduring whatever pointed barbs host Ricky Gervais decides to lob from the stage of the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom.
The famous attendees might be nervous, but for us regular folks watching at home, the Globes ceremony promises to be a rowdy good time, with Gervais taking inflated egos down a notch, and potentially tipsy stars bursting into tears/and or embarrassing acceptance speeches.
This will be Gervais' fourth time hosting Hollywood's least prestigious, but most entertaining, self-congratulation fest. Over the years, he's taken verbal shots at such targets as Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, Scientology, Cher, Johnny Depp, and more.
Gervais is returning to the job at a tricky time. He has to fill the shoes of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, whose work hosting the Golden Globes was a textbook demonstration of how to score comedy points, while still showing everyone a good time.
So dress up in your finest casual, sitting-on-the-couch wear, bust out the popcorn and whatever beverage you choose, and get ready to cheer, boo, hoot and holler. And laugh, if Gervais does his job.
Which movies, shows, and stars are going to win? I don't know, but that didn't stop me from making predictions, based on my expertise, vague hunches and wild guesses. Here's the rundown of my picks.
And here's where to find the red carpet nonsense, er coverage, and the show:
Golden Globes Red Carpet Coverage:
The fashion folderol starts early on E!, at 1 p.m. "Live from the Red Carpet on E!" begins at 3 p.m., and brings those hard-hitting, "Who are you wearing" questions from Ryan Seacrest and Guiliana Rancic.
NBC (8): The red carpet pre-show begins at 4 p.m.
Gervais hosts, and Denzel Washington receives the Cecil B. DeMille Award. The extravaganza is scheduled to run three hours. (5 p.m. NBC/8)
Note: If you miss anything during the 5 p.m. airing, it will rerun when it's over; the repeat is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
