MoMA’s Department of Film, in association with IFP and its quarterly publication Filmmaker, presents the 10th edition of Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, which highlights films from the festival circuit that have yet to be picked up for theatrical distribution, along with other discoveries, from visual artists working in the moving image to the latest indies not available in theaters. Past selections have included Madeleine Olnek’s Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, Ronald Bronstein’s Frownland, Eliza Hittman’s It Felt like Love, Kevin Jerome Everson’s The Island of Saint Matthews, and Nathan Silver’s Uncertain Terms. Taking the pulse and responding to the changes in online- and self-distribution in recent years, this series remains a favorite for any cinephile who wants to discover the newest talent in American filmmaking on the big screen. Filmmakers take part in a Q&A following selected screenings.
