Portman met her husband Benjamin Millepied on the set of the 2010 dark psychological ballet movie directed by Aaron Aronofsky and accepted her Oscar while pregnant with their son Aleph, now nearly four.
It was following the birth of her child, she tells the publication, that she changed her mind about the Oscar she'd worked so hard to win.
And it was a biblical revelation of sorts.
'I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshiping false idols, ' she said.
Four years on from collecting the statuette, Portman confesses she has no idea where it is.
'I think it’s in the safe or something. I don’t know. I haven’t seen it in a while, ' the actress said.

Of her marriage, the V For Vendetta and Star Wars star acknowledges that it's a work in progress.
'The disappointments are always in myself, ' Portman reflected in her interview with THR.

'When you’re faced day to day with someone looking at you, it’s like a mirror that you have to yourself, and you can see your own good behavior and bad behavior. And it’s a beautiful challenge to be the best person in the mirror that you can be, ' she said. 'I mean, I don’t beat myself up over it, but I’m not always as generous as I feel like I could be.'
Meanwhile, the Israeli-born Oscar winner has just finished putting the final touches to her directorial feature film debut a Tale Of Love And Darkness.
It's a drama, all in Hebrew, based on the best-selling memoir of Israeli author and activist Amos Oz.
On Tuesday night, Portman presented Oz with an award at a Beverly Hills gala celebrating the fifth anniversary of the UCLA Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies.
The movie will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.
